Lieut. P Heinekey wrote from hospital on May 10 to Lieut. C Steer:
I guess the company was very much changed when you got back, I believe we lost pretty heavily, I could not very well tell as there were so many missing no-one seems to know anything about.
None of the stretcher bearers reached the farm and very few of the machine gun crews. Charles, don’t forget you have a real good man in J C Dick. Do all you can for him. Please remember me to him and tell him I won’t forget the way he got me out of the way when I got hit. He was a brick that night.
